NEWS | PlayStation Network “Welcome Back” is UP!

Hi all! I know how frustrated we were back when PSN went down, but the good thing is, it’s all coming back, one by one. First off, the PlayStation Network online service came back starting from the US, then the Europe and currently in Asia. This enables us play multiplayer games again. Later on, PlayStation Plus went back together with free goodies exclusively for PlayStation Plus users. Then yesterday, the free users extended their happiness with the Welcome Back program which started around 2AM, the time I was about to play Climax mode in Bayonetta and sleep. Good thing, the free games came in. However, Hongkong and Singapore-based PlayStation Network accounts are currently in the process of rebuilding the network. So, what I did is to use my US account and grabbed those free games. Take note that each region, US, EU or ASIA, do have differences in the free games.

The instruction in PlayStation Store is to “Get” the item “Welcome Back: Free PS3™ Game 1” and “Welcome Back: Free PS3™ Game 2” in the list so you can grab 2 out of the 5 free games for the PlayStation 3.

I decided to choose inFAMOUS and LittleBigPlanet. Thankfully, I haven’t bought these two games, or else I may not choose them but Dead Nation or WipeOut HD.

By the way, inFAMOUS 2 Demo is now available in PlayStation Store, so grab it now, it’s really an awesome game. I hope to get my hands on it. 🙂

NEWS | IM YOONA and SONEs are the trend!

Yesterday, we saw a lot of hollywood singers and artists names together with their respective fanclubs trending in twitter.com. The list includes Justin & Beliebers at #3, Taylor & Swifties at #4, Gaga & Monsters at #5, Demi and Lovatics at #6, and more.

Some K-Pop fanatics became really frustrated (including me) bacause the the day after that night is Girls’ Generation Yoona’s birthday, and of course, it’s a must to make Yoona up in the trends list. I did not sleep early because of this, trying to help other SONEs and non-SONEs. However, as I’ve checked right now, I can see IM YOONA in the 5th spot.

Surprisingly, SONEs is also trending. This is a very good news for K-Pop fans. I hope IM YOONA can make it to the number 1 spot. On the other hand, let us greet Yoona a happy birthday. 🙂

Now, now. What else? There’s the PSN, there are free games, and what? It’s a hell of a gaming week again! I’m so glad Sony is doing their best to attract their consumers once again. I bet this is gonna be history. Back when the XBOX360 was hacked, there’s no other solution for Microsoft but to ban those consoles. As for Sony, they have this and that, and I’m so sure that PS3 gamers out there are fully satisfied, once the PS Store came back. I’m so excited, by the way.

NEWS | Play On – PSN Restoration Begins Now

The Sony PlayStation Blog recently posted a new article about the current status of the PSN service. Oh, and I’m glad that PSN is coming back now. Here’s what it says:

Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.

Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.

Posted by Patrick Seybold of The PlayStation Blog

Great. I myself is feeling so excited to play online games again. Even the people in TipidPC PS3 thread became alive again. I hope the restored PSN is no more hackable. Thanks Sony.

NEWS | PSN Outage Update: A Letter from Howard Stringer

This morning (yeah, it’s past 12AM already.), news from the US Sony PlayStation Blog came out which plainly includes a letter from Mr. Howard Stringer, the Chairman-slash-President-slash-CEO of Sony Corporation. In his letter, he apologized to the Sony PlayStation’s dearest consumers, as well as the current state of the incident, the future plans for the PlayStation Network service and a few words to please us to still have faith to Sony. Here’s what he said:

Dear Friends,

I know this has been a frustrating time for all of you.

Let me assure you that the resources of this company have been focused on investigating the entire nature and impact of the cyber-attack we’ve all experienced and on fixing it. We are absolutely dedicated to restoring full and safe service as soon as possible and rewarding you for your patience. We will settle for nothing less.

To date, there is no confirmed evidence any credit card or personal information has been misused, and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We are also moving ahead with plans to help protect our customers from identity theft around the world. A program for U.S. PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers that includes a $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user was launched earlier today and announcements for other regions will be coming soon.

As we have announced, we will be offering a “Welcome Back” package to our customers once our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are up and running. This will include, among other benefits, a month of free PlayStation Plus membership for all PSN customers, as well as an extension of subscriptions for PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited customers to make up for time lost.

As a company we — and I — apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused by this attack. Under the leadership of Kazuo Hirai, we have teams working around the clock and around the world to restore your access to those services as quickly, and as safely, as possible.

I know some believe we should have notified our customers earlier than we did. It’s a fair question. As soon as we discovered the potential scope of the intrusion, we shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services and hired some of the best technical experts in the field to determine what happened. I wish we could have gotten the answers we needed sooner, but forensic analysis is a complex, time-consuming process. Hackers, after all, do their best to cover their tracks, and it took some time for our experts to find those tracks and begin to identify what personal information had — or had not — been taken.

As a result of what we discovered we notified you of the breach. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are upgrading our security so that if attacks like this happen again, our defenses will be even stronger.

In the last few months, Sony has faced a terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan. But now we are facing a very man-made event – a criminal attack on us — and on you — and we are working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies around the world to apprehend those responsible.

In the coming days, we will restore service to the networks and welcome you back to the fun. I wanted to personally reach out and let you know that we are committed to serving you to the very best of our ability, protecting your information better than ever, and getting you back to what you signed up for – all the games and great entertainment experiences that you expect from Sony.

With best regards,
Howard Stringer

Source: US PlayStation Blog

Now, now. What can you say? Are you pleased? Well, I am. Atleast Sony does not deny anything. There is no conspiracy. Mr. Howard Stringer is surely sincere with his words and we can feel his sympathy towards the incident. As we can see, they’re making sure that the new rebuilt PSN server will be 100% un-hackable (I really hope it is). Time to go..!

NEWS | 2 Days to go for PSN, 1 month free PS+…!

We all knew the news, from here, that our PlayStation’s online service, the PlayStation Network will be up and running again starting on May 3. And that’s 2 days to go.

Well, Sony and company agreed to something that will make their users get attracted and start using the service again. That is, free 1 month subscription to the PlayStation Plus service. For those who are regular PlayStation Network users, they will have a free one month free trial of the said service. On the other hand, users who are already subscribed to the service will have the chance to get free 1 month instead of paying their bill for that month. Good thing? for some I guess.

Because of this free blah~blah, I’m getting more excited to go and play multiplayer games again. It’s ben a while and that’s what I’m feeling. I’m sure you too…! xoxo

NEWS | PlayStation Network to go back online on May 3rd (Updated)

I’m sure a lot of you are getting so thirsty in accessing the multiplayer features of your PS3s. Well, here’s a good news. According to the PlayStation Blog, the service will be up and running again starting on May 3rd. Believe it or not, this is official. Hackers of the PlayStation Network (if there really is, how many they are, and what they did with our accounts, we don’t have a clue) still have 3 days to celebrate their selfish masterpiece for hacking the service. Also, Sony promised that they’ll get revenge against them, for their money-sake, and for the PS3 users-sake. Oh God’s sake! Here’s what the news says:

Sony has confirmed that it hopes to restore some fuctionality to the PSN service by next Tuesday in a new statement on the PlayStation Blog.

“Our employees have been working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure.”

Dated April 27, the update posted by Patrick Seybold (Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media), would put the estimated return date for PSN services as May 3, meaning that the service will have been offline for two weeks.

Although which services will be coming back online next week is unclear, Sony has stated they are working on new security measures for the future, as well as seeking out those responsible for the breach, confirming they “are working closely with a recognized technology security firm in order to find those responsible for this criminal act, no matter where in the world they might be located.”

Source: PlayStation Blog + IGN

If you read it carefully, Sony stated that they’ve been working with a “recognized technology security firm”. That, we don’t know, and I bet it’s a top-secret-Sony thing.

The “project: system rebuild” is almost done, I believe. This crisis has led the service to a backlash. For 2 weeks of “NO PSN”, I bet this is considered to be a good news to PlayStation users. Hopefully, we can trust Sony to permanently secure our accounts forever. Oh, and don’t forget to think of a new password for your account(s), it is necessary to change password once the PSN service is up and running. Feel free to share this article. xoxo

EDIT: It seems like the article’s source, which is IGN, made a big mistake and players worldwide assumed that the service will be back exactly on the 3rd. According to a reliable source, Sony did not mention any exact date, instead, clarified that they only hinted that the service will comeback definitely starting on the 1st week of May 2011. Right now, May 5th, the time I’m writing this revision of this post, there are only a few days left for Sony to keep up with their promise. I, Mistercomputer, hope that it will all turn out well.

EDIT: I’ve seen a lot of people waiting and waiting and losing patience, so here you go, the latest from Sony Japan. 🙂

Valued PlayStation®Network Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation®Network user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

It’s too bad that PlayStation Network is still down. I know how people, specially fanboys, are getting annoyed of it. We still don’t know what’s the reason behind, and because of various rumors circulationg around the internet globally, it makes us more and more annoyed. We just hope that the dudes in PlayStation dev team do the right thing to make us play multiplayer again, with no anomalies in our credit cards.

Right now, what we can do is to monitor your credit card connected to your PSN account, check your emails, and regularly login to PSN via their website to check if their are some things strange. Also, feel free to inform the other players, hit the “Like” button to share this post to your Facebook friends, hit the “Tweet” button to spread the word to your twitter-mates, or just click the “Email” button to send an email through your email service. xoxo
