Goodbye PS3 Jailbreak. Hello firmware 3.42

It’s almost 2 weeks since the release of psgroove’s USB modchip, or what we call the primary Jailbreak of the PlayStation 3 console system. Many gamers became excited and at the same time, many PlayStation fan boys started to get pissed. I wasn’t one of those who got excited, not also a fan boy, but I just don’t support the jailbreak. I enjoy every single features of the PS3, what it is on its release, and what it is right now. Sony is doing well with their business of the new PlayStation Move. They didn’t let our folks, the black hat hackers, mess up our PS3s. Just 2 days ago, they released a new firmware, version 3.42, just to permanently (hopefully) block the USB modchip. But my theory is that, as stated on some site I’ve seen a couple of days ago, the USB chip is able to update itself, so that means every time Sony releases a new firmware to terminate the exploit, the dev team of the exploit will do the same, that is, to bypass or hack the new firmware. Well, that is just my theory. I hope it will only be a theory and will never ever be in reality coz’ if that happens, then expect brutality from Sony, like mandatory PlayStation Plus for every user and you will definitely say goodbye to the free PlayStation Network.

Here’s a meaningful quote by my fellow PinoyPS.com user named Swine from the PS3 Firmware Update Thread:

On the other hand, while I’m looking for the DLC for Mafia II (cracked ones), I’ve seen this site where you can download BD-ripped jailbreak files for the PS3. I have seen GTA: Episodes from Liberty City (8.0GB), Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (6.01GB), Just Cause 2 (3.63GB) and even the EPIC Mafia II (6.53GB). That was quick and sad. Those Jailbreak files are all provided by this cracking team called DUPLEX. I hope Sony will make an action about this thing. Hey guys from Sony, please help us gamers, we have a situation here! ^_^ Think about the numbers… 3GB…6GB…8GB!!!

I have managed to take a screenie of it as well, featuring my new Dante’s Inferno Firefox Persona ^^

Do you detest the jailbreak?

How to format External USB Harddrives to FAT32 in Windows 7 for PS3

Back in the old days, I’ve got 2 pairs of 40GB IDE hard drives. A year later, I bought the new Core i7 rig which uses SATA drives instead of IDE ones. And months later, bought myself a slim 120GB PlayStation 3. I assumed that I can use those old drives for the PS3, just to copy movies and pictures (I have a 4GB flashdrive and I think it’s too small for me to copy those HD Girls’ Generation videos I collected so far). Back in Windows XP, formatting isn’t a problem. You can use either FAT32 or NTFS, or even the older FAT and FAT16. But the big problem is, Microsoft excluded that option in Windows Vista and 7, and I believe, even in the next version of Windows… I even bought an external enclosure for those harddisk and finally I’ve got a solution. Well, it’s not like there’s no other solution but I think this one’s the best.

1. Download this: fat32format
2. Extract it to C:\
3. Run > CMD
4. In the command line, type “cd…” so that it will bring you to C:\
5. type in “fat32format :” and Press Enter. Example: fat32format G: (where G is the drive letter of the external USB drive.)
6. A prompt will appear “Warning ALL data on drive ‘f’ will be lost irretrievably, are you sure (y/n)” and type “y” then press Enter.
7. It will format now, and done!!!

Just a warning. This post doesn’t have anything to do with the current PS3 exploits such as the PSJailBreak. I am against those things and you can try checking out this article if you don’t believe me, Here. Please do not practice this method so you can use those exploits. If you do that, you’re really committing a crime.

Long live PlayStation 3!!!
